Training and Experience
I always wanted to work with horses, and at the time there was a shortage of horse dentists, so I applied to the American School of Equine Dentistry in Virginia and trained there in 2001.
Since completing the course and an apprenticeship there, which involved traveling all over Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and having the opportunity to work on various types of horses in all sorts of disciplines. I came back to the UK to start my business, which I did in the Isle of Man. I have carried on with my training spending time with other dentists since then and sit regular courses here (in UK) to help improve what I do and keep up to date with whats new and whats changing.
I have now set up a business in Cheshire/Staffordshire and commute to and from the Isle of Man to work. I am currently in the process of taking my British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) qualification.
I work alongside vets in order to ensure that my clients get the best possible treatment and never loose my patience with any horse as I feel it is very important for them to tolerate (enjoy) the experience without to much force. If they need more advanced work this is done under sedation (provided by a veterinarian).
